Some recent macros shot with the Nikon 1 V1, 10-30 and Marumi DHG200 / Raynox DCR-250 close-up lenses

I’ve been meaning to post some of my recent macros, which I’ve taken with the trusty old V1, 10-30mm, Marumi DHG200 (check out my review of the Marumi here) and Raynox DCR-250, but unfortunately I’ve had bronchitis the past couple of weeks. I wasn’t really in the mood for blogging.

Shot with: Olympus OM-D E-M10 & Olympus 45mm f/1.8Shot with: Olympus OM-D E-M10 & Olympus 45mm f/1.8Shot with: Olympus OM-D E-M10 & Olympus 45mm f/1.8

In case you are wondering what’s it like to shoot with a set-up like this one, it’s basically the same as with the Olympus OM-D E-M10, 45mm f/1.8 and the said close-up lenses. The only difference is that for lack of a flashgun or built-in flash (V1 has none) I rely entirely on ambient light. As you can imagine, this has its advantages as well as disadvantages. It’s definitely harder to get tack-sharp pictures without flash, especially if the insect or arachnid is moving or if it’s windy. But on the other hand flash can ruin the atmosphere and photos do tend to look all the same. The more I shoot the less I’m certain which one I prefer, flash or ambient light. Hmm…

Hope you are all better now. Wonderful shots! Sometimes I shoot with and without the flash and many times I prefer the shot without the flash as it just seems more natural looking a lot of times. Did you use a tripod for all of these?

I’ve already received 9 shots (antibiotics), today is the last one. I’m almost as good as new. 🙂

Thanks! Yes, that is exactly how I feel. It has its advantages in regard to the technique and image quality, but I mostly prefer the look and the atmosphere of ambient light.

These were all shot hand held.

      Hi Joni,

I use the same 40.5-52 step-up ring for both the Marumi DHG200 +5 and Raynox DCR-250. The Kenko looks to be a Marumi in disguise. It’s quite cheap at amazon.com, but in Europe it is extremely expensive. At amazon Germany it costs between 100 and 180 Euro. And I paid 50 Euro for the Marumi.

Wow, that is some difference in prices, I wonder why. Even with the cheap price of the Kenko here I can not afford it right now. Hoping the future gets better for all of us soon.
